R.L. Blake Pty Ltd was founded in Cobden, Victoria, by Ron Blake, a hardworking and community-minded local who began with nothing more than a shovel and strong values. From carting sand by hand, Ron grew the business into a trusted name in civil construction and quarry supply across southwest Victoria—built on honesty, service, and reliability.

In 1988, Ron’s nephew, Chris Blake, joined the business after completing his degree in surveying and gaining experience in Portland. Raised in Cobden by his mother and uncle alongside three siblings, Chris grew up immersed in the business and community life. In 2004, after Ron suffered a stroke, Chris stepped into the full leadership role, continuing the family legacy with a steady hand and a long-term vision.

Under Chris’s guidance, R.L. Blake Pty Ltd expanded significantly—broadening its services across civil construction, excavation, and quarry supply. Chris also led the company into heavy haulage, the shifting of large plant and machinery, and plant and equipment hire—services the business has delivered for decades, with deep industry knowledge and a reputation for reliability.

A key part of the company’s continued success is Mark Hinkley, a long-serving and respected team member. Although Mark had been part of the business for many years, he formally stepped into an operations management role in the early 2020s, helping to lead the company during a time of disruption and change. During the COVID-19 period, Mark played a crucial role—managing day-to-day operations, supporting staff, and keeping projects running smoothly. Today, Mark remains instrumental to the business, coordinating teams, overseeing sites, and working closely with Chris to deliver quality outcomes.

A full contributor and lifelong supporter of his family, friends, and the Cobden community, Chris is known for his quiet generosity—supporting others behind the scenes, sponsoring local initiatives, and donating time and resources to causes that matter. His belief in doing good and giving back is embedded in the culture of the company and in every project they deliver.
